Fall Philly, 2009- The Emergence of the MyLesPaul Forum

Well, the Fall Philly show this past weekend was capped off by the first "official" meeting of the MyLesPaul Forum guys, or 'Pauler's Confluence, if you will. In case any of you are wondering just who these particular guys and gals are, they are the fine folks that maintain, contribute to and fly the flag of all things Les Paul over at www.MyLesPaul.com and in our book, they're some of the coolest people to be found on your planet, period! If, at any time I get any names wrong or misidentify anyone in any of these pictures, I apologize but cannot say that I changed the names to protect the innocent, because I'm quite sure they're all guilty of something, somewhere. Let' begin....

  • Photo 1. Here's the one and only Bobbo, laying down his best blues licks. I know he's playing the blues because the fellows across the aisle at Pigtronix tortured the MLP guys all weekend with the sounds of Imbubu Yeti mating calls. That's a whole 'nother story in itself, but I will say that I never once saw Bobbo with his red nose on and that's kinda like seeing Ronald McDonald without his red Afro wig. Maybe next year, Bobbo.....
  • Photo 2. Here's the hardest working man in show business, Artie aka DelawareGold. He and his wonderful wife, Lynn really went out of their way to make sure the show was a first- class event for the forum guys. They put out ID posters for those of us that were forum sponsors, gave out ID tags ( thank God for those) and generally ran the ship as far as the MLP booth was concerned. Two days of standing on concrete will surely show your dedication to the cause and we all owe him and Lynn a big fat kiss on the mouth. I was sick this past weekend, so I opted for a couple of handshakes and a pack of Twinkies. Thanks, Artie- now let's see if we can make next year's meeting even better. You work out the dancing girls and I'll scare up a brass pole....
  • Photo 3. This is Steve, otherwise known as "Dam Dirty Ape". He rolled into the 'Elk Booth and said "Hi"- he looks like a bodyguard of some sort, so Lee and I naturally assumed we had broken some obscure rule and were about to be beaten within an inch of our lives. Turns our, Dirty Ape is really a teddy bear and he has a really cool service called "Drop Cards". It's an Internet MP3 hosting company that sounds groundbreaking in its approach, using viral loops and the sort. Worth looking into and we're thinking of hiring him as 'Elk Head of Security on our next trip to the Hawaiian Tropic Bikini Judging Contest....
  • Photo 4.This is Lynn, CEO of DelawareGold, Inc. If Artie's bathed, on time and has his hair combed, she's the reason for it. A fine lady that also went way beyond the call of duty this past weekend!
  • Photo 5. This is Frank's "Les Tall" guitar, which is one of his 3/4 sized, travel guitars. A beautiful piece of machinery to say the least.
  • Photo 6. This is "Greenie #2, which started life as an '01 R8 and was magically transformed into what we see here by Dave Johnson, from Dave Johnson Restorations/Historic Makeovers fame. Frank also contributed to the finished product by working on some of the detailed aging. It's so stunningly accurate, I couldn't bring myself to ask to pick it up. I held the actual Greenie in Dallas a couple of years ago and just in case this is the real thing, I didn't want to get nervous, drop it and owe Frank seven figures....
  • Photo 7. A close- up of above mentioned guitar. Incredible workmanship and a beautiful piece by Mr. Johnson.
  • Photo 8. The Gang, from left to right: Specflec, Pinefd, Bugman, Bobbo, Delawaregold, Flickoflash, Led Zep Fan and Led Zep Fan Jr.
  • Photo 9. In this photo you see Ray and I at our booth. Notice anything pequliar? If you guest that there are nothing but Les Paul's in our booth, give yourself a double shoot of Jack on the rocks.
  • Photo 10. A view of the MLP booth- it contained different facets and flavors, nut remained true to the mighty Les Paul. An honorable mention must be given to the Iommi SG, because it was one of the coolest guitars in the room!
  • Photo 11. Frank's "Baby Duane". Since Lee calls me a midget all the time, I was tempted to grab this little beast and break into "Whippin' Post", but Frank gave me the evil eye and I just took this picture instead....
  • Photo 12. Here's Artie, pointing out to Lee that, although most picks are three- sided, if he uses the long point, he'll be able to get those rare, pinched- squeal harmonics that made Zakk Wylde so famous. Now, my partner has me searching Ebay for a Zakk Les Paul, a wig and a pair of bell- bottomed jeans....
