Dating a late 70's Fender is much like getting the correct age from a Chinese gymnast. Is she 9 or 16, is this a '79 or is it an '81? Friends , Ray leaves no stone unturned. I thought I knew him, but he is to a guitar like Indianan Jones is to Archeology. He'll go deep to find out the truth and he can't rest unless he's turning screws to find whatever it is he's looking for. The date, a marking, Jesus in a plate of spaghetti or just maybe, the men on the grassy knoll. Maybe he's that dude who wants to know what the eleven secret ingredients are in his bucket of chicken. As you can see in the pictures below, this guitar is indeed an official 1981 Fender Stratocaster. But, that is not the whole story. This guitar is in AMAZING condition without the first solder joint ever being disturbed. The neck is nice and full- not one of those early reissues with the thin, less than manly necks. This is a "boy dog" if you know what I mean. Paperwork? Of course. Clean? Undoubtedly. I know, you want to know about the weight. It's very comfortable, almost a featherweight. Truth be told, it weighs exactly 7 lbs, 12 oz and that is a very respectable weight for this era. If you love these big- headed beasts, then this could be your portal to guitar utopia.
