Description:
When I look at this guitar, I think of windmills and power chords. Where would we be without Pete Townshend? As you may or may not know, Pete bought one of the first five of these Rickys when they arrived at a little- known shop in England, owned by Jim Marshall. Whether eccentric or perhaps in need of anger management classes, Pete was indeed one of the fore fathers of modern Rock history. In his earliest years with The Who, he played Rickenbackers and the only reason he left them behind (or shattered, if you will) was for the simple fact that the guitars weren't durable enough for his stage antics. His original version of this guitar was the first of many to be smashed into smithereens when its neck snapped off against the ceiling of the Railway Hotel in Harrow and Wealdstone, September 1964 according to eyewitnesses. The following week, the show was sold out. What happened because of an accidental placement of the headstock through the ceiling, turn into Pete taking it out on his guitar, which led to the legendary breaking of his guitar every night. Why? An accident, naturally. Do you see now how some people are just destined for greatness, even in their mishaps. One last thing people: Because of the thin neck shape of these guitars, Pete made up unorthodox finger positions which have been since adopted by us, the masses. Once again, greatness from adversity. Eddie Van Halen knew greatness when he heard it and so do I. This guitar is a tribute to the earliest days of rock folklore- just thought you might wanna know and if you don't, ask somebody. Class dismissed...
