Description:
"Piezo." This sounds like the word I would use when, after seeing an opera and then attending the after- party, the star walks over to me and asks, "How did you like my performance?" I would simply smile and say, "Piezo." It would have to be the perfect thing to say, right? As to this Stingray, Lee was at the Franklin guitar show and I was, as usual chained to my desk. I was toiling endlessly at my writings and daily duties when he called up and asked, "Hey man. You ever seen a Stingray with 5 knobs on it?" Truth be told, I had not, so I quickly looked it up and discovered that he was probably holding a bass with the 3- EQ and a piezo pickup in it. I told him what it was and that it was now officially on my "cool- ass bass" list, so he loaded it up, along with all the other musical booty he had acquired that weekend and brought it on back to the crib. This bass was the first thing I pulled out of the van and I'm not ashamed to say that I immediately disappeared into the bottom of the Elkcave where my bass rig is. "Time to check this bad boy out." I thought and went straight to it. The humbucker doesn't surprise with it's strong, standard Stingray tone, but the piezo is a nice addition to the bass. I tended to leave it slightly blended in with the humbucker, which added a little "salt" to the sound. I guess the exploration of this bass probably took about 30 minutes or so and while I truly wanted to find out about how it sounded, I secretly was stalling so Lee would have to unload the van by himself. Serves him right for leaving me behind while he got to walk around a room full of guitars all weekend. In Tennessee, no less and I love Tennessee. And all the things that go with being in Tennessee. For the weekend. At a guitar show. With the boys. In Tennessee. Now back to playing some piezo bass to soothe my wounds...
