There is something about the handling of a guitar that can make one really appreciate the beauty of wood. After seeing this Baker for the first time, I actually sat back and reflected on the wonder of this magical medium. I stood on my back deck and looked at the old- growth hardwoods that surround my house. These old warriors renew themselves every spring and then go back to sleep every winter. It's hard not to believe in a higher power when you consider the actual life of a tree and the wood that it can produce. Years ago, I read the story of how Paul Reed Smith got started and about how he would look for antique furniture to make his early guitars. Now, every time I wander into an antique store or flea market (dragged heavily by my dear wife), I look for the flamed maple or bearclaw figuring on some of the old dressers and chest of drawers. It's amazing what you will find if you really look deeply for these features. Again, it has given me a new appreciation for the material that the guitars I handle every day are made of.

So, for Gene Baker to marry a Mahogany body to a Koa top is to feed into everything I just spoke about. This BJH is stirring in its beauty and flawless in its construction. It's exactly the type of guitar that, once you have seen it, you automatically think to yourself, "I've got to have that one". It's not just another plaintop R0,- that has certainly been done, but it's sets itself apart both by it's beauty and functionality. In the end, this Baker California is exactly the type of guitar that, when you show up to band practice with your "new guitar", you won't be wearing just another old Les Paul out of a pawn shop. And, it's #6 of only 25 ever made, so that's the cherry on top of the Koa cake! Give us a call with any questions and thanks for stopping by...
