** ON HOLD FOR ROB ** Lee looked at me as I stood holding this guitar for the first time."You sure about this"? he said. "It's a lot of money," but I nodded my head and held fast. "I got a feeling about this one," I said. "I think we outta go with it," and with that statement, this guitar was ours. On the ride home from the Philly show, as Lee was driving, my mind drifted as I thought about what I was going to write about this EDS-1275 and then it hit me- I would write about the very thing that influenced me to buy the guitar in the first place, some 37 years after my first "meeting" with the band...

I was a late-comer to Rush. They had released their first album in 1974, so when my family moved to Douglasville, Ga. in 1980, I still had not heard anything by the band, or at least anything I would have quickly recognized. That sounds sad, but I was deeply into KISS and Van Halen so at the time, nothing else really mattered (if you were a teenage KISS fan, you certainly know what I'm talking about.) Anyway, we moved to Douglasville in January 1980 in the middle of my Junior year. Not a fun thing, let me tell you but I joined the marching band at my new high school and this is where "it" happened. We would have after-school practice on Thursdays in preparation for our show during halftime at the Friday football game. After practice, as the band was putting all our gear away and waiting for final instructions, our band director would let us listen to records on the band room stereo. People played different things and I would always try to get at least one side of KISS Alive on there (to the moans and chagrin of the others in the band) but there was really nothing of note until the day someone from the drum line put on "2112". Let me reduce this entire story down to a single statement: The first notes of the solo in "Overture" literally changed my musical life". As I listened to that album for the first time, I got goosebumps and just stood there in front of that stereo, rapt with attention, as they say. That was almost 37 years ago to the month and as I am writing this, I am listening to that very song and yes, it still takes me back to that little marching band room in Douglasville. If a piece of music can do that for you, then I'd say it has some pretty strong medicine...

So that is why we bought this guitar. I knew I could appeal to that one guy out there that feels the same way I do and at one time in the past, may have had that same experience. If you have, then you know exactly what I am talking about. Lee and I got to meet and have drinks with Alex in Atlanta a couple of years ago and I relayed this very story to him. He was very kind, funny and seemed to appreciate my experience, although he probably has heard "Rush changed my life" a million times. As we parted that night, I thanked him again, said my goodbyes and as Lee and I walked to the van to head home, I felt 10 feet tall. My smile could not have been wider and that, folks is why we bought this guitar...
