Description:
I decided to pass on the story about aliens from another planet delivering this bass to my house or how I was swallowed by a whale and there was Jonah, playing this bass. Instead, I want to talk about value and what a serial number can do for us (or you). This 40th Anniversary P-Bass may be one of several available on the market, but it is set above the fray by two things: the serial number and the package as a whole.

Being #007 of the 400 made, this one is obviously among the first 10 made and shows the excitement and care taken with the earlier basses that were crafted in this run. I'll leave all the Bond jokes aside, as I'm sure Lee's going to ask me why I didn't write a "The Spy Who Loved Me" or "Goldeneye" story. Nope- I want to focus on the lowness of the serial number and say that, in my humble opinion, it most certainly adds value to the bass as both a collectible and playable instrument. Only six basses are below this one and that's if all six still exists some 26 years later.

The second attribute one can find attractive with this package is its completeness. This P-Bass comes with every stitch of case candy you could imagine and as the proverbial cherry on top of the cake, there is one of Bill Carson's original business cards when he worked at Fender included. How cool is that? A John Page bass with a Carson card- man, it just doesn't get any better than that, in my book. The 9-volt, Philip Kubicki electronics perform flawlessly, so "that tone" is more than present. Again, a package that cannot be denied if you're a fan of these instruments. This is why we still, after 17 years get excited when a guitar or bass with this kind of package shows up at our door and as long as one pops up every so often, I think I could see doing what we do for another 17 years. That is, as long as the ol' knees don't give out- the rebellion of my youth will surely come back to haunt me in some form or fashion...
