2013 .Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul R9

Les Paul R9
Cherry Sunburst
Exceptionally Fine
A great novel came to mind when I first saw this Les Paul, but I think it deserves a little something better than that. Yes, Elks, I'm giving this one the 'ol "just the facts, Ma'am" treatment and you'll thank me later.

I never thought I would discover what I thought to be the "perfect" guitar, but with this '59 Reissue, I think we have come pretty darn close. The first thing is its condition: It is what we call "exceptionally fine" and the guitar looks as if it's never been played. Now I would never call anything "mint," but this is about as close as you can get.

As for the ridiculously quilted Maple top, what words are there, really? It's nothing short of drop-dead gorgeous and I am baffled as to how a top like this got out of Gibson's Custom Shop as late as 2013 unless it was maybe custom-ordered. Whatever the reason, somebody was having a great day at Gibson when they built this guitar. This is, without a doubt one of the top 5 Maple tops we've ever had in here and that is saying a lot. A true stunner!

The thickness of the neck at the 1st fret is 0.93" and 1.01" at the 12th. All dem numbers add up to one thing- a perfect '59 neck profile. 'Nuff said on that.

And, now we'll get to what I think is one of the best features- the weight. Over the years, I have lost track of the number of times a potential buyer would say something like, "8.12 is a little heavier than I wanted. I'd like to be in the 8.6 or 8.7 range." Well hoss, I got you covered on that one because this R9 weighs exactly 7 lbs, 15 oz and it's not chambered or weight relieved. As we like to say down here in the South, "Like a boss..."

That about wraps this one up, ladies and gentlemen. There may be a bazillion R9's out there for sale, but I guarantee you, there's only one with the combination of this top and weight. It sets the bar pretty high when it comes to these Historic Reissues and the cherry on top of the proverbial cake is, it sounds as good as it looks. I know it's hard being both smart and pretty, but this baby does it all in spades. For somebody out there, it is the ONE and certainly the one to be had...
