1957 Martin D-28

We purchased this Martin several years ago in South Carolina from the original owner and his wife. The story, as he relayed it to us, was that he bought it new and it became his main player for many years. Later on in life, his playing decreased with age and this D-28 was quietly put away. As it so happened, one of our favorite and long-standing clients was standing there as the story was told and we were able to take possession of the guitar. It seems this old Martin just wouldn't leave his mind...

Flash forward to three years ago. Our client finally got us to agree to sell this guitar to him and I think this D-28 was exactly what he had been searching for. That said, because it had been put away for such a time period, it needed some TLC to bring it back to life. Our guy took it to Gruhn's guitars and had the following repairs made:

  • The neck was reset and refretted.
  • The original nut was replaced.
  • The Rosewood bridgeplate was replaced.

That's it and the instrument plays as sublimely as one could ever hope for. It emits a vintage tone that is even and smooth- the term "glassy" comes to mind. Put it this way: This D-28 sounds exactly like all of those late-50's and early 60's Country records we grew up on and if you want to step back in time a few decades, just lay this beauty in your lap and hit a "C" chord. If you have any questions or requests regarding this exceptional vintage Martin, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm quite sure there is someone out there that would enjoy having this guitar in the room as much as we do...
