I remember walking into Guitar Center and seeing these guitars when they were first introduced. The first impression was, of course the price. At 10k, the price of these beauties was nothing to sneeze at. The second thing I noticed after almost having to bribe a sales associate just to hold one was the quality. No doubt Gibson put their finest luthiers at work on these girls. Since most mere mortals couldn't fork over (75 grand at that time) for an original, this was the next best thing. I wanted one alright, but I couldn't see paying 10 thousand dollars for one. Hell, where would I sleep, right? Can you imagine walking into your house and the old lady says:
"Well, what did you do today?"
You reply: "Well baby, I bought me an Explorer for myself. Ain't she a beaut?"
Significant other: "Snuggles, what did WE pay for that fine guitar?"
You: "Um, aw, well, er, 10 thousands dollars."
Her: "WTF? I hope that piece of wood keeps you warm at night, 'cuz you will need that and a blanket!
So you see friends, women have no love for the almighty Gibson unless you are one of the guys that plays in Def Leppard. Been more than a few years now since this guitar was introduced and just maybe, your finances are a bit more inline, or just maybe you traded the first for the second and hopefully, you have a stronger pimp hand- can't never tell. But, if you've been looking for one of these exceptional guitars, just maybe you can find love the second time around. What's the alternative? Oh, I know- get the blanket. The backseat is still comfortable...
