Many of you know that we go through Les Pauls around here like a running chainsaw through a bale of hay. Not to say that any of our guitars are “lesser than,” because we are pretty danged peculiar when it comes to choosing the ones we want to offer, but every once in a blue moon, we get a special piece in that gets our attention in a big way. Take this 2018 R8: We bought this guitar straight from the owner of “Historic Makeovers.” The first thing that popped us in the jaw was the exceptional, two-piece top and once we got a look at that, it was love at first sight. The stunning, rich Cherry Burst looks more impressive in hand and the color is even deeper and more vibrant than you’d expect. Sometimes, you hold an R8 in your hands and there is just nothing wrong with it. Rather, everything feels right. This Les Paul has had the $5000.00 Historic Makeovers RDS package applied, with just a slight bit of aging applied to it. Here is a list of what has been upgraded on this ‘Paul:
Complete refinish with aniline dyes and nitro-cellulose lacquer
COA straight from Historic MakeOvers.
Neck reshaped to correct “C” shape, with roll-off at binding
Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard with 50’s style Cellulose Nitrate Inlays
The neck has direct specs from Joe Bonamassa’s “Magellan.”
Nylon Nut 6/6
Hot hide glue reassembly
Body and Neck rebound with Royalite Binding
Correct Top Carve
Factory Gibson Plastics,Hardware & Electronics aged.
Simply put, Kim and the boys at HM have taken an already exceptional guitar and made it even better. It weighs in at 8 lbs, 6 oz, so you know that even the weight has been ‘Elk- approved. The Gibson and HM COA’s are also present, so the package is complete and investment-worthy. Please call or email with any questions and we really appreciate you stopping by the land ‘o the ‘Elks!
