What’s that? Oh, you just don’t have a couple hundred thousand to spare for a Shaded Top, pre-war Martin? I get it, but you do want that tone, right? Well, do I ever have something for you. This 2008 Merrill C-28 has got that dry, woody tone that sounds like the conductor ran the train engine off the tracks into your living room.

This Merrill looks almost as much like a late-’30s D-28 on the inside as it does on the outside. It also has the neck shape and tone you’d expect from a reissue of those iconic Dreadnoughts (since the neck is 1 11/16″ at the nut, this has the neck of a late ’39 Martin D, but the bracing of an early 1938.)

Like Lennon’s song, “Give Me Some Truth,” I’ll do just that by letting you play this beast. This guitar is a better made instrument than you can hope to achieve from Martin nowadays. The Brazilian back and sides are not only beautiful, but they add to the foundation of the Adirondack spruce that speaks with fire.

Friends, this Merrill is a one-owner guitar (well, two now because I’ve had it for year) that will give you years of enjoyment and you only have to buy quality once, folks. This guitar had a minor crack in the back, maybe an inch long that has been professionally cleated. Other than that, well, you can see for yourself. It’s nothing short of spectacular.

In closing and as I stated earlier, if you just don’t have 200 grand, then this guitar right here is the answer. That’s what we’re known for here at the ‘Elk: The finest guitars and answers, of course. So, if you have questions, fire away. My only question is, why don’t you have this amazing guitar already?
